"Kintsugi" Ceramic Repair Workshop

"Broken ceramics can be repaired, and the repaired ceramics not only emit a golden glow but also represent the courage to start anew in adversity."

Mr. Enders Wong, a master of Kintsugi art, said that Kintsugi is, to a certain extent, the expression of Wabi-Sabi, which means "doing the most beautiful thing in the most difficult moment." This quote seems particularly precious in this challenging year. In the recent "Kintsugi" ceramic repair workshop, besides sharing the history, techniques, and appreciation of Kintsugi works, the instructor inadvertently turned the spirit of Kintsugi into some philosophical insights on facing challenges while sharing his Kintsugi experience. Students came with various troubles but left with gentle smiles. They brought home not only the lifelong useful Kintsugi technique but also the courage to face adversity.

Mr. Wong has a master's degree in art and is deeply researched in the aesthetics of ceramic art, especially in Kintsugi. He has been invited by the Hong Kong Museum of Art to conduct Kintsugi workshops and demonstrations. His works have also been collected by the Hong Kong Flagstaff House Museum of Tea Ware.

To coincide with the upcoming publication of the Kintsugi book, Mr. Enders Wong has reorganized the course schedule of the past few years and is starting anew. In this workshop, besides explaining the history and Wabi-Sabi aesthetics of Kintsugi and teaching the Kintsugi technique, he will also share various techniques and experiences of Kintsugi creation. This workshop is suitable for those who have no experience or are beginners in Kintsugi. After completing this course, students will not only take away their own works but also a comprehensive knowledge of Kintsugi.

This is a 6-hour intensive Kintsugi workshop over two days. The course content includes:

1. Understanding the origin, philosophy, and development of Kintsugi art
2. Understanding the characteristics and applications of Kintsugi materials
3. Learning traditional Kintsugi repair techniques
4. Sharing of Kintsugi creation techniques
