Since December 2021, “The Hearth” invites the renowned singer-songwriter Vicky Fung to curate a series of performances titled “the making of ME”. The past three concerts have explored the idea of identity and what it means to us at different stages of life.

The programme returns in 2023, taking inspiration from Tai Kwun’s community arts project Remember The Time We Sing and invites young singer-songwriters who took part in the project to share their transformative experience through music. In this project, the musicians walked alongside elderly with dementia and their families in a 5-month journey, where they created songs together. The concert will be accompanied by a screening and sharing of the project’s documentary, offering a glimpse of each musicians’ thoughts and transformation in this unique encounter.

“the making of ME”

Over the past six months, has witnessed the growth and transformation of different participants of the project. In the project’s documentary, Project Director, Training Mentor and singer-songwriter Kaki Lam, and Creative Trainers Miu, spoke about how the project empowered them with a sense of mutual trust. Singer-songwriters Peterson Leung and June Leung, who respectively have experiences as a nurse and a social worker, have been much musically and creatively inspired by the project. Storyteller Zip will join them in recounting touching stories of their transformation.

As a local singer-songwriter, I believe that music and lyrics can deliver a story.

Pop songs which | participated in composing include CLOSER by Jeremy@Mirror, CHASTITY by Jamiez and my very own WHAT IF I, WE HAVEN'T MADE THE WORLD EASIER and FOOL.

I am a vegan musician who feeds mainly on purity. In the remedial music toddler class, I rely on my talents. If there’s a term “taking exams naked” meaning going for an exam without doing any revision, then I would call my songwriting "composing naked". I have participated in "Make Music Work 2" and composed the song "由佢La" (It's up to him), which won the "Best Song" award (my personal best), and released my first album "我__ " (I__) (purely done on my own) in July this year.

A public hospital nurse and independent singer-songwriter, Peterson has been involved in demo productions and performances, and has released reworked versions of popular songs online. He started making music a few years ago, with folk and pop rock as his current major genres. His works on streaming platforms include《時間有沙》 (There’s sand in the time)、《走走》 (Have a walk)、《以我們之名》 (In the name of us)、《筆記》 (Notes)、《只需不死》 (Just need to not die)

Kaki Lam graduated from B.A. Social Work of HK Polytechnic University, a registered social worker in HK, had worked in NGO for grassroots students in HK for 4years. At the same time, she never stops to create music and perform. In 2014, she went to Australia for a busking working holiday trip, bringing her original songs to OZ streets. In 2016, she returned to HK and began to devote herself to the HK music & arts industry. Meanwhile she formed an acoustic duo girls group- Winter Bagels, and released an EP to bring to Eastern Europe in August of the same year, afterwards the group is active in the HK music scene.  Kaki has worked for music and performance related productions for 6 years, mostly as Producer and Project Manager, and also to keep on music creation, aiming to infiltrate the capacity of multiple roles and holistic experiences so that she could more effectively bring up connections of projects as well as to align the creation and production.

About “The Hearth”

We believe everything in life can be an inspiration of arts, and everyone can unlock their artistic potential through participation and appreciation. By bringing people together to share a time and a space, performing arts can create bonding and memories that are unique and relevant to those on and off the stage.

“The Hearth” is a regular thematic programme to explore how performing arts can connect people from different communities and create synergy. By integrating music, dance, theatre, films, literature and more, each monthly programme is designed to look into how performing arts can nurture creativity, establish identity and care for wellbeing. These programmes are curated and led by creative and academic professionals across various sectors, presented in a range of performances, workshops, screenings, games, talks and more to encourage participation, evoke thinking and stimulate discussion around topics that concern us.
