Since December 2021, “The Hearth” invites the renowned singer-songwriter Vicky Fung to curate a series of performances titled “the making of ME”. The past three concerts have explored the idea of identity and what it means to us at different stages of life. In September, story-teller Chow Zip will return with three distinctly unique singer-songwriters; together they will continue the journey of self-exploration, and embrace the vulnerability that constitutes their essential selves.

“the making of ME”

Musicians make music, but at the same time, some of them may agree that music also defines who they are. Of all the challenges a musician can face, the biggest task is to acknowledge and embrace their own vulnerability. And it is only through this acceptance, they can truly sing from their hearts.

Independent artist Zelos Wong was once afraid of his true self. Going through the pain of losing his partner, Zelos came to understand that even masculinity has its vulnerable side. He decided to face himself unreservedly, and this is the first step to embrace the delicate side of himself.

Singer-songwriter iii is known for her unique and artistic musical style. Behind her tough and composed image, iii once worried about being stereotyped as a particular style of musician. She is determined that her music must not be defined by how other people perceive her.

Ah Dee is a veteran theatre performer who has an extensive experience on the stage. Apart from his acting career, Ah Dee also wishes to connect with the audience with his music as a singer-songwriter. In these three years, the pandemic has inspired him to create a “I comfort myself series” to share his thoughts and feelings.

About “The Hearth”

We believe everything in life can be an inspiration of arts, and everyone can unlock their artistic potential through participation and appreciation. By bringing people together to share a time and a space, performing arts can create bonding and memories that are unique and relevant to those on and off the stage.

“The Hearth” is a regular thematic programme to explore how performing arts can connect people from different communities and create synergy. By integrating music, dance, theatre, films, literature and more, each monthly programme is designed to look into how performing arts can nurture creativity, establish identity and care for wellbeing. These programmes are curated and led by creative and academic professionals across various sectors, presented in a range of performances, workshops, screenings, games, talks and more to encourage participation, evoke thinking and stimulate discussion around topics that concern us.
