After the online performance “This Victoria Has No Secret…When It Goes Online”, Yat Po Singers is thrilled to be back to Tai Kwun and show the audience their work-in-progress of “Om Encounter”, the new a cappella theatrical production. The new production aims to work from the ground of Chinese traditional opera to explore new possibilities on art forms, and to re-examine this traditional “musical theatre" from a modern perspective.

Michael Lam and Yuri Ng are leading the creative process with the music composition by Ng Cheuk Yin and lyrics by Leung Pak Kin.

Full version of the play reading will be available on-site only, selected pieces of the performance would go online for on-demand viewing during 20-30.11.2020.

Quota for live performance is with limited registration quota with first-come-first-serve basis.

All sessions are full. Tai Kwun will distribute the waiting-list tickets to walk-in audience at the foyer of JC Cube 30 minutes before the programme starts. 20 waiting-list quota will be available. Nevertheless, audience on the waiting-list will only be admitted in the absence of registered audience when the show starts.

Biography

Yat Po Singers

The first professional a cappella choral theatre company in Hong Kong. The founding Co-Artistic Directors are Patrick Chiu, Ng Cheuk Yin and Yuri Ng. Currently led by Ng Cheuk Yin as the Artistic Director, and Anna Lo as the Associate Artistic Director, the Company focuses on producing and developing original works in order to promote a cappella art and demonstrate the innovative interaction of music and theatre. Besides, the Company aims at enriching the arts scene particularly by nurturing young composers and artists, audience building and arts education.

The Company’s first a cappella theatre production Rock Hard received the CASH Golden Sail Music Award in the Best Serious Composition category from the Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong in 2009. In 2015, the Company received the “Award for Arts Promotion” from the Hong Kong Arts Development Council. Another a cappella theatre work, Our Immortal Cantata (Re-run), was awarded “The Best Original Music & Lyrics”, “The Best Sound Design” and also one of “The Best Productions of the Year” by the 26th Hong Kong Drama Awards in 2017. In 2019, the Company’s collaboration with City Contemporary Dance Company Requiem HK was awarded the “Outstanding Large Venue Production”. In 2020, Love, Death, and Everything In-between, was awarded “The Best Lyrics” by the 29th Hong Kong Drama Awards.
