Heritage education activities seek to empower students and teachers to use Tai Kwun as a one-stop living resource to learn about Hong Kong’s history and culture, law and order development, as well as conservation and sustainable urban development.


Tai Kwun History and Conservation: Guided Tour

A 60-minute school guided tour introducing the history and conservation of the Central Police Station compound to students across different age levels. Online Learning (Secondary): Tai Kwun Stories

This 45-minute online talk invites students and teachers to delve into the stories of Tai Kwun and Hong Kong before in-person visits to the historic compound. Two versions of the activity are available to cater to different subjects:

1. Heritage Stories

(Subjects: History / Chinese History / Geography / Other Learning Experiences)

2. Conservation Tales

(Subjects:  Life and Society / Visual Arts / Other Learning Experiences)

With interactive games and quizzes, students will uncover stories of the heritage compound with over 170 years of history, and foster foundational understanding to enrich on-site experience in the future.

Courtroom Theatre

The courtroom of the former Central Magistracy is turned into an immersive theatre for students to re-enact historic court cases. Through roleplay and discussion, this inquiry-based activity allow students to ask important questions and acquire critical thinking and communication skills.

Two themes are available for upper primary to secondary school students. This activity is conducted in Cantonese only.

Teachers’ Resource Handbook

This handbook acquaints primary and secondary school teachers with the history and revitalisation of Tai Kwun. Suggested learning activities deepen students’ understanding of Hong Kong’s conservation policies, as well as the importance of striking a balance between conservation and sustainable urban development.
