Teachers’ Morning and Teachers’ Workshop are Tai Kwun Contemporary’s knowledge-sharing and communication programmes designed especially for teachers and art educators. Through explorations of current exhibitions, meetings with curators, artist workshops, and discussions about art education, we hope to build a platform for the sharing and exchange of contemporary art knowledge, developing effective pedagogical practices in contemporary art together.

The latest edition of Teachers’ Morning and Teachers’ Workshop takes a closer look at the current exhibition at Tai Kwun Contemporary: HOPE – Patricia Piccinini. Featuring hyperrealistic and surreal sculptural, photographic, and film works by the Australian artist Patricia Piccinini, the immersive exhibition taps into our hopes and fears about the impact of science on humanity, and invites us to explore various unexpected consequences, both negative and positive. HOPE raises important questions about the nature of history, progress, and technology, and ponders our collective ability to create warm and caring relationships and to live lovingly with each other.
For this event, the exhibition curators introduce the curatorial concept and present selected artworks in person. Afterwards, the artist and lecturer Ice Wong Kei Suet explores how emotional connections can be transformed into creative art practice, particularly in performance art.

Workshop Introduction
“What makes you vulnerable makes you beautiful.” — Brene Brown
This Teachers' Workshop invites participants to rethink human vulnerability, especially in terms of how an understanding of this concept and the emotions that surround it can be transformed into performative art practice.
Understanding our emotions is essential for the development of identity, values, and behaviours. This is the foundation for establishing relationships with ourselves, our families, and our communities, as well as with society and the world at large.
In this workshop, the artist Ice Wong shares her art practice and recent creative ideas, discussing how she uses her observations of the body and emotions for performance art. The presentation is intended to further participants' appreciation of contemporary art and performance. In the second half of the workshop, the participants are invited to explore their own physical movements in daily life through group activities. This activity is a means of discovering our emotional connections with others, and it offers participants a way of bringing the contents of the exercise and discussion into the classroom.
The morning session of this event will be conducted in English and Cantonese, and the afternoon session will be conducted in Cantonese.
This is a free event. Please register via the link below on or before 31 May 2023.
