General

“The Witching Hour” panel brings together panelists from Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta region to have a conversation about art and contemporary practices of the occult. Our panelists will present on their own practices of occultism and their origins, as well as discuss their adaptations to society today. This panel includes artist duo Mountain River Jump! who work with card divination and astrology, attempting to apply a “cultural psychoanalysis” to the reality of the present. Joining them is Purlibra, a teacher of astrology in Hong Kong, who seeks to remake the image of the occult. This conversation will be moderated by soul coach and energy healing therapist Boey Wu.

“Art After Hours” is an evening event series presented by Tai Kwun Contemporary that will talk with you, sing with you, show and tackle something new every time. Usually held on Fridays at 7pm, “Art After Hours” aims to sharpen art awareness through talks, performances and screenings by artists, writers, intellectuals and curators alike.

Mountain River Jump!

Mountain River Jump! is an artist duo founded by identical twin sisters Huang Shan and Huang He, who were born in 1985. The two collaborate as a group while they have been working independently on their own solo projects for years. They are fearless in discussing subjects such as samsara, astrology, card divination, ghost stories, and mythology. They have broad interests in the ancient and the modern, and attempt to apply “cultural psychoanalysis”, at both linguistic and visual levels, to their study of the reality of the present. They also examine mainstream and official discourses through their research of folklore, analysing social-power relationships. Their artistic practices cover a range of formats, including static visual works, moving images, sound, lectures, workshops, and divination behaviors while emphasising the importance of the communications between people.

As the founder of Purple Star House, a classroom for occultism, Purlibra has been offering courses and teaching astrology, tarot, numerology since 2007. She is the author of Tarot of Perspectives System and the host of Mystic Speech, a programme on occultism.
