At a time of uncertainty and fear, how do we situate ourselves and seek the light at the end of the tunnel? In collaboration with physical theatre master and educator David Glass, O Theatre Workshop and Dream of Tomorrow, Tai Kwun will present the “ÉLAN Lost Child Project HK” in July. “The Lost Child Project” was developed by David Glass from 1997 in 22 countries. Its core mission is to use theatre and arts to empower marginalised children and young people. Taking the French word “élan” (vigorous spirit) as the lead, the project assembles the joint efforts of artists, scholar and community to look into the mental health of youngsters and grown-ups through an eclectic programme of dance, theatre, music, interactive games and forum. With the aid of social media and technology, “ÉLAN” will bring together the digital and reality, igniting the creative power across the communities. Join us in this quest to reconnect with your inner child!

About Lost Child Project HK

A 3-year project with physical theatre master and educator David Glass and O Theatre Workshop. Its core mission is to use theatre and arts to empower marginalised children and young people in Hong Kong. After the exploration rounds of workshops in 2019, the Lost Child Project Hong Kong was launched this year. It is a cross-disciplinary advocacy campaign, using creative interventions such as training workshops and performances. This year, workshop participants, including social workers, arts practitioners, teachers and students, are invited to further their artistic research and use various media and art forms to reach the communities.

David Glass

Award-winning solo performer, theatre director, writer, designer, lighting designer, filmmaker, teacher and creative thinker, David is one of the UK’s most prominent theatre directors and principal founders of the physical/visual, devised, ensemble and applied theatre movements.

In 1999, David established David Glass Ensemble and has toured productions to 32 countries. In 1997, he founded the groundbreaking Lost Child Project, working with over 10,000 street children in 22 countries. In Cambodia he wrote his five stage Creative Practice book which is now used worldwide to help organisations such as Save The Children, UNICEF, UN/ILO and numerous Universities around the world helping them to think and work more creatively.

Olivia Yan

Founder and artistic director of O Theatre Workshop, Olivia Yan is a renowned multi-talented artist in the field of contemporary Asian theatre, as well as a playwright, director, actress, teacher and writer. Soon after her graduation at Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, she ventured to the UK and France to study acting and physical theatre under masters such as Philippe Gaulier and Monika Pagneux, opening up her horizons in contemporary theatre.

Upon her return to Hong Kong in 1993, Olivia cofounded Theatre Ensemble (later transformed to PIP Cultural Industries Ltd.). Later, she established O Theatre Workshop to distinguish her works. In 2013, she joined hands with Wong Chau Sang Anthony to found Dionysus Contemporary Theatre. Well-recognised for her achievements in theatre, Olivia has been awarded numerous industry prizes, including Hong Kong Arts Development Awards Artist of the Year (DRAMA) (2014)) and Hong Kong Drama Awards Best Actress (2000 & 2005).

Olivia is also passionate about arts education. She founded PIP school and O Kids Performing Arts School, and gives workshops for overseas institutions and professional theatre groups, including the Department of Arts at the Shenzhen University (Shenzhen), Theatre Practice (Singapore) and U Theatre (Taiwan), etc.

Dorothy Wong

Founder and director of DREAM OF TOMORROW (DOT) and a UK–registered drama therapist, Dorothy Wong was awarded Chevening Scholarship and studied in London. She has rich experiences in drama & movement therapy, arts and cultural projects, community engagement, youth development and creative initiatives. Various cultural projects were organised in different cities and countries like Hong Kong, UK, Toronto, Shanghai, Cambodia and Romania etc. From 2015 to 2018, she developed the first-ever Museum Festival for Hong Kong public museums and curated programmes including mini-concerts, drama shows, interactive museum journeys, exhibitions and cultural talks. In recent years, Dorothy acted as Project Consultant for MOViE MOViE Life is Art Film Festival, Design District Hong Kong (Placemaking Project in Wanchai) and “Sig.Tune for HKMoA: Creative Music Programme” as well as curated public programmes for Hong Kong Palace Museum. Dorothy Wong is thrilled to develop arts engagement strategies and DOTA Training Model, aims at building DOT-Colab communities.
