General

imitating the dog (ITD) is a company which creates beautiful images in the space between important ideas, and which moves the audiences. They tell stories through live performance for theatre spaces and in site-specific locations, combined with the creative use of digital technologies. Apart from bringing Nocturnes to Tai Kwun Theatre Season, they also bring a series of professional workshops on “sound, digital scenography, video, and theatre” this time, which aims to have more in-depth exchanges with the Hong Kong industry and explore more possibilities in creation.

Speaker: Andrew Quick
Co-Artistic Director of imitating the dog

Workshop 1: Cinematic Dramaturgies
Date: 6 Jul (Friday)
Time: 10am-1pm
Conducted in English
Quota: 15
Participants must be working at theatre, sound or video production professional
Participants begin by producing a soundscape including both Foley sound and dialogue. This soundscape becomes the text for a short film, which is made using the back-projection techniques we employ in our production of Nocturnes. This short film is projected into the performance space and using in-ear monitoring, dubbed live, we create onstage action that reflects and at the same time contradicts the narrative of the film with which it shares a text.

Workshop 2: Nocturnes: A Performance for the Post-Truth landscape
Date: 7 Jul (Saturday)
Time: 4:30pm-6:30pm (After the 3pm performance, ticket not included)
Conducted in English
Quota: 15
Participants must be working at theatre or video production professional
As one of UK's most original and innovative performance theatre companies, imitating the dog is peerless in the innovative integration of digital media and live performance.
The Company Co-Artistic Director Andrew Quick will host a lecture and discussion on “Nocturnes- A Performance for the Post-Truth Landscape” to drill into details of the work.

Workshop 3: Working with Digital Scenography
Date: 8 Jul (Sunday)
Time: 10am-1pm
Conducted in English
Quota: 15
Participants must be working at theatre or video production professional
Using a live stream of material being recorded in the performance space, explore the construction of stage realism as opposed to cinematic realism. In the stage space performances that imply one kind of spatial or psychological relationship are filmed, edited and projected live to suggest something that may be subtly different or completely contradictory.

Fees:
Workshop 1 $300
Workshop 2 Free of Charge
Workshop 3 $300
**Full refund will be given to participants who have attended all workshops
